Cons #3

During the hard economic times, costly school uniforms make it hard for families to save money. “School uniforms are expensive and have no use outside of school,” states a user on youdebate.com (1). What this person said is true. When children are out over the weekend or the summer, uniforms sit in the closet waiting to be worn. Whereas using regular clothes year round, the clothes will be worn much more then uniforms. Children grow all the time. Buying two of everything can cost up to 150 dollars. When children grow out of their outfits in the middle of the year, one will have to pay another 150 dollars to replace their child’s clothes with another set (5). When people say that uniforms are cheaper, they are not telling the whole truth. If one does not buy and excessive amount of designer clothes, it is much easier to save money for other things (6). The styles change every season, and kids these days want to stay in fashion. When the kids have to wear a school uniform, it limits them to how many regular pieces of clothing they can get. It is hard for children to ask their parents to buy designer clothing when money is scare and families, having a uniform, can bring down the chance of kids getting more of the styles they want to wear outside of school. School uniforms are a costly price with not many benefits; therefore schools should not enforce the uniform policy.
